The Hunter is an unmanned aerial vehicle used by the U.S. Army to gather intelligence and target enemy forces. This combat-proven drone has been in service since 1995. Its first operational deployment took place in Republic of Macedonia. In its 7-month operational span, the Hunter flew over four thousand hours. Its significant operational success in Kosovo led to the resumption of production. It has also been deployed to Iraq, where it has been used to counter ISIS with Viper Strike munitions.

MQ-5B Hunter

The MQ-5B Hunter is an advanced version of the MQ-5. The aircraft features a twin tailboom design, heavy fuel engines, and weapons-capable high points. The MQ-5B Hunter's gross take-off weight is 1800 pounds. It can fly at 22,000 feet. It is capable of missions up to 15 hours. This aircraft has a relay mode for controlling other Hunter aircraft, and can carry two Viper Strike guided bombs. This aircraft can also travel up to 80 miles making it ideal for scouting missions.

The MQ-5B Hunter is equipped with the most advanced DoD UAV avionics. The aircraft comes with a PC and an auxiliary Power Distribution Unit (GCS), GPS units, and Litton LN-251 GPS inertial navigation system. The aircraft's advanced avionics system helps reduce its size, weight, and power consumption. It can perform multiple missions at once.

RQ-5A Endurance Hunter E-Hunter

The Endurance Hunter (E-Hunter), a tactical unmanned air vehicle, is called the Endurance Hunter. Its first flight took place on March 17, 2005. The aircraft is a joint effort between Northrop Grumman (USA) and the US Army. The Hunter UAV's endurance, payload and range will be improved. It will be sold as a field-installable package. At the moment, there are approximately 50 Endurance Hunter RQ-5As.

The Hunter is capable carrying Northrop Grumman’s BAT-submunition. This weapon has decimated an MBT Combat Vehicle and incapacitated the moving T72 tank. The Hunter was also able to successfully carry the Viper Strike precision munition. It has a 1.8kg (4lb) warhead as well as a semi-active laser seekers. It is a fixed-wing dual-rudder aircraft, with a six-hour endurance rating. Additionally, it has a flight duration of more than 100hrs. Two Passaggio Guzzi petrol engines produce 60 horsepower each to propel the RQ-5A.

Army One System: Ground Control Station

The Army is moving towards a universal ground control system that can be used to manage unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). To have full aerial coverage, it is now possible to purchase hundreds of high-performance UAVs at a low price from many manufacturers. Every UAV comes with its own unique controller, vehicle receiver, screen and screen. Army has created a new program called One System. One System ground control is one step in this direction. This Spotlight article discusses the concept and current status of One System ground control, as well future technology initiatives.

One System platform was originally developed for the Textron RQ-7 Shadow TUAS. However, it's now capable of supporting multiple UAVs, including the Northrop Grumman RQ-5 Hunter. It can also support the RQ-2 Pioneer UAV and AAI Aerosonde UAV, as well the RQ-8 Fire Scout Helicopter UAV. Both the One System ground control station (and the ground control station) run on Windows and Sun Solaris systems. They communicate via an analog datalink as well as a directional antenna.

Viper Strike anti -armor munitions integration

Northrop Grumman announces a contract for several GBU-44/E Viper Strike unmanned aerial vehicle anti-armor armed. These munitions will be integrated on KC-130J Harvest Hawks and will use the latest software load to increase the effectiveness of the weapon against time-sensitive targets. Viper Strike is a GPS assisted laser-guided version of the BAT munition.

The Viper Strike anti–armor armament, a gliding munition that can be used for precision stand-off attack, is the Viper Strike. The Viper Strike anti-armor armament uses a GPS-aided navigation system, semi-active laser seeker and a semi-active laser seeker to strike precisely and cause minimal collateral damage in urban areas. It is an option for future Hunter UAVs and has been proven to be effective against a wide range of targets.
