How To

How to Fly Drones with Beginners

A drone can be used to fly remotely controlled aircraft for photography, surveillance, scientific research, hobby and commercial purposes. The technology behind drones has been around since World War II. DJI's Phantom series of quadcopters was the first to be commercially used. Since then, there have been many different types of drones available, from beginner-friendly models like the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 to professional-grade multi-rotor craft like the DJI Mavic Pro.

There are many methods to fly a Drone, including

  1. Remote control – This is when you attach a device to your hand that allows you to control the drone's flight path. There are two types of controllers available: joysticks and on/off switches.
  2. Manual Control – This allows remote operation of the drone via GPS coordinates using a smartphone application. You will need to keep track of where the drone is going and follow the directions from the app.
  3. Autonomous Flying - This allows the drone to take over all of the piloting duties. It allows the drone to fly independently without any human intervention. The drone must be equipped with a camera and sensors that can capture images and data in order to fly autonomously.
  4. Triggered Flight - This method is similar to manual control, except the pilot manually sets up a preprogrammed route, and the drone follows that route until it reaches the endpoint. After the program is complete, the drone automatically returns to the ground.
  5. Landing Gear - Some drones come equipped with landing gear that allows them to land safely if they lose power or run out of battery during flight.
  6. Goggles-Some pilots use goggles to protect their eyes from debris during operations.
  7. Camera - Some drones can be equipped with cameras which enable you to capture photos from the sky.
  8. Obstacles-Some drones come with obstacle avoidance devices that keep them from hitting obstructions.
  9. Speed - Some drones reach speeds exceeding 40 mph.
  10. Battery Life - Most drones last between 20 and 3 hours depending on how much power they have.
  11. Range - Depending on the model, some drones can travel up to 30 miles away.
  12. Power source - Some drones require an external power source; others work off internal batteries.
  13. Weight – Some drones are less than one pound, while other models can be up to four pounds.
  14. Size - Drones range from small devices that fit in one's palm to large crafts that weigh more than 50 pounds.
  15. Price - All drones fall within a specific price range, from high-end models that can cost thousands of dollars to lower-cost options starting at $100.
